Chantuc, established in 1979 by Emma Alvarez, manages farms Malacara B, Piedra Pacha, and Las Mercedes, now run by her children, Roberto and Claude. Each farm offers essential facilities for workers and their families, ensuring daily meals, housing, and job security.
The blend comprises Malacara B and Las Mercedes coffees. Malacara B, established in 1888, covers 50 hectares at 1,500 meters on the slopes of Santa Ana Volcano. Las Mercedes, at 1,200 meters, in Tacuba, Cantón El Sincuyo, dates back to the 1940s and borders “The Impossible” national forest. Chantuc prioritizes sustainable practices, including shade tree planting to reduce fertilizer use, favoring Inga Pepeto trees for their broad canopy.
They employ minimal chemical fertilizers, opting for organic and compost alternatives based on plant and soil nutritional analyses.
