Happy International Coffee Day 2021!

The International Coffee Organisation (ICO), established in London in 1963, first declared the occasion of International Coffee Day on 1 October, 2015. The idea of an entire day dedicated to the coffee industry goes a long way back.

However, it was only after the ICO’s declaration in 2015 that the day began to be celebrated unanimously across the world.

Every year on October 1, International Coffee Day is observed to celebrate and promote coffee as a beverage. This day is also celebrated to educate people about the benefits, history and popularity of coffee. On this special day, people celebrate and recognise the hard work and efforts of those who are associated with the coffee industry. From cappuccino to espresso and filter coffee, a true coffee lover knows there are different types of coffee and the list is countless.

Undoubtedly, for many people, coffee is not just a beverage but a source of comfort that rejuvenates the senses and inspires thought and emotions. International Coffee Day is celebrated to educate people about one of the most loved beverages in the world.

In 2014, the International Coffee Organisation (ICO) decided to dedicate International Coffee Day to all coffee lovers. But it was in 2015 that the ICO launched the first official Coffee Day in Milan.

The main aim of International Coffee Day is to highlight the impact of our buying habits on the industry and educate people about the conditions of coffee growers across the coffee belt. The day is dedicated to appreciate millions of farmers who go an extra mile to produce great coffee for us. People celebrate this day by gaining knowledge about the history of this aromatic crop, try various types of coffee and dishes made out of its beans and organise various events in coffee shops and outlets.

A lot of effort goes behind in providing you with your favourite beverage. On this day, we enjoy the beverage but also to raise our words for the hardships experienced by the workers associated with the coffee industry. In our efforts to increase enviromental awareness of our impact as consumers and operators, we have been sourcing managed forest coffee. It is the best way forward for an inclusive environmentally friendly approach to coffee buying and selling. Zege Coffee contributes in forest preservation and comes in a biodegradable 250g coffee bag.
